Research Administration

Research is core to the sciences, health professions, social sciences, business, education, and engineering and is vital for advancements in these fields. Managing research requires specialized knowledge and skills to be developed through this major. A major in Research Administration will provide students with the foundation to support and manage research in academic and nonacademic settings. Students will develop communication and project management skills. They will gain an understanding of accounting and finance principles, and will operate within a framework of ethics and accountability. In addition, they will become familiar with legal, regulatory, and organizational structures. 

 

Dearborn Discovery Core (General Education)

All students must satisfy the University’s Dearborn Discovery Core requirements, in addition to the requirements for the major.  Students must also complete all CASL Degree Requirements.

The major includes 10 courses and one required minor from either Health or Organizational Administration career interest tracks. Major credits range from 32-38. Minor credits range from 12-21.

Major Notes:

  1. At least 16 credits of this major must be completed at UM - Dearborn.
  2. Students not enrolled in the College of Business BBA program cannot enroll in more than 30 credit hours in courses offered by the College of Business.
  3. Students are limited in the number of courses they may share between a major and a minor and so must carefully select their minor courses. In some instances students will be limited in their choices regarding available minor courses, if the minor courses have already been used for the Research Administration major. Students must work carefully with their advisor to choose courses for their minor.

Minor Notes:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for the minor/concentration. The GPA is based on all coursework required within the minor (excluding prerequisites).
  • The use of transfer credit, field placements, internships, seminars, S/E graded courses, and independent study/research courses is limited to 3 credits in a 12 credit hour minor/concentration and 6 credits in a 15 credit hour and above minor/concentration.
  • Courses within a minor/concentration cannot be taken as Pass/Fail (P/F)
  • Minors requiring 12 credits may share one course with a major. Minors requiring 15 credits or more may share two courses with a major. This does not apply to concentrations for the Integrative Studies major.
