Services

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) welcomes international students and scholars to the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The mission of the OIA is to enrich the UM-Dearborn community through inclusive learning experiences that promote cross-cultural exchange. We are committed to building, supporting, and sustaining a culture of global inclusion through intercultural understanding.

The OIA provides many services to the international communities on campus including all aspects of F- and J-visa immigration advising and processing for all new and continuing international students and scholars. The OIA also supports international student and scholar life on campus through orientation services, intercultural programming, international health insurance, housing support, workshops, events and more.

The English Language Proficiency Program (ELPP), as part of the OIA, is the accredited intensive English program (IEP) of the UM-Dearborn. The ELPP prepares students from all over the world to achieve proficiency in English, and succeed in their academic field of study.

The OIA supports international students throughout the entire cycle of their student careers at UM-Dearborn, from before they arrive, through their course of study, and beyond graduation. In addition to immigration and student life advising and support, the OIA also collaborates with academic units and student support offices across campus to ensure that international students thrive in their academic and professional careers.

The OIA also supports campus internationalization by supporting study abroad, international exchange, and faculty-led programs in addition to many on-campus programs and initiatives that foster cross-cultural communication and understanding.
